As of January 2014 this is now an assisted living building. You must be over 65 and disabled to live in it. However, you cannot act disabled to live in it. They do not allow family members or hired companions to travel with the residents when the activities take place outside the building. They also require residents to break down their own cardboard for recycling.

  • Marcy Park Playground, Sherri Faye wrote 11 years ago:
Marcy Park (which is it's official name, is also a playground) is located on 11th Ave. in S.E. Minneapolis, between 7th and 8th Street in the "Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood". The first Marcy school (known then as the 4th Ward School) opened in 1878 on 9th St. in S.E. Mpls., then moved to 11th Av. in 1908. It became named Marcy Elementary School (k-6) in 1959, and then Marcy Open School in the 1970's. (I went to that school and finished 6th grade in 1971 there). Eventually that building was torn down and made into Marcy Park Playground, and all that remains of the school at that location original playground drinking fountain. Marcy Open School (k-8) moved in 1992 to their current location, 415 4th St. (near Northeast Mpls.) adjacent to Holmes Park, and is still within Marcy-Holmes neighborhood. The band "Marcy Park Playground" is named after Marcy Open School because John Wozniak of the band, went to school there, and many of his songs were inspired by his childhood. Mystery solved.

This is not the correct location. The original garage was at 818 19th ave. It was demolished in the 1970's. There is a garage at the address, but it is not the original.

This park has a playground, BBQ grills, picnic tables, basketball court, open space, and free Mpls Wi-Fi. They show movies in this park during the summer months, and they also host an art fair. Lots of people bring their dogs here to play. It's a great neighborhood, especially for those who want proximity to downtown, the lakes, MIA, and UofM.

Unlike the other person, I thought this was one of the quieter places in this area. There's a lot of traffic on the street, but inside was good.
